Fee for passport, identity card collection at SingPost outlets will be waived from Oct 1

SINGAPORE - Singaporeans will no longer need to pay a fee when collecting their passport or identity card (IC) at SingPost outlets from Oct 1. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said on Wednesday (Sept 22) that it will bear the cost to provide the convenience. In a statement, senior assistant commissioner Dominic Chua, director of ICA's citizen services centre, said: "This initiative to encourage the collection of the IC and passports at post offices is part of ICA's transformation plan to provide greater convenience to our customers." Members of the public can choose to collect their documents from 27 designated post offices islandwide. Currently, citizens and permanent residents are charged a collection fee that ranges between $6 and $12 when they collect their passport or identify card. Those with previously unsuccessful biometric verification in transactions with the ICA will still need to collect their documents at the ICA Building. Applicants will be informed of the collection options available to them when the documents are ready for collection. Eligible residents will need to make an online appointment at this website to collect at their preferred post office. ...

Queues form early for free masks on morning of Temasek Foundation’s fifth distribution exercise

SINGAPORE - Some outlets distributing free masks ran out of stock around noon on Thursday (Aug 26), the first day of Temasek Foundation's exercise. Under the fifth Stay Prepared initiative, each household can collect 50 medical-grade surgical masks and 25 N95 respirator masks at selected malls and supermarket outlets islandwide from Thursday to Sept 26. Queues began forming over an hour before distribution began at some malls on Thursday morning, with safe distancing ambassadors reminding people to maintain their distance while lining up. Over at Lot One shopping mall in Choa Chu Kang, mall staff could be seen directing the early birds to come back later, or to scan a QR code and join a virtual queue. One such person was retired typist Madam Tan, who arrived at the mall around 9.30am. "I came because (I thought) people may be kiasu, I was worried people would come and queue early," said the retired typist, who declined to give her full name. She said that when she had previously tried to collect free Vitamin D supplements during Temasek Foundation's distribution exercise in March this year, supplies had run out by the second day, so she thought it best to arrive early for this mont...

More than 130 collection points for free N95, surgical masks from Aug 26; some malls to have digital queue system

SINGAPORE - Singapore residents can collect free masks at 15 CapitaLand malls and selected Sheng Siong, Prime Supermarket, Cold Storage, FairPrice Xtra and Giant outlets from Aug 26 to Sept 26. The number will be scanned and recorded before the masks are given out. Residents can also provide their SP residential account number for manual validation. Household representatives are encouraged to reduce plastic waste by taking their own bags to carry the boxes of masks when the collection exercise begins, as no bags will be provided. The surgical masks will come in two boxes of 25 pieces, or one box of 50 pieces. The N95 masks come in one box of 25 pieces. The masks are standard adult size. PSLE results to be released on Nov 25, students can collect from their classrooms

SINGAPORE - The Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results will be released on Nov 25. The Secondary 1 (S1) option forms to select secondary schools must be collected in person and will not be available online, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said on Wednesday (Nov 18). Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, school candidates will collect their results from their classrooms instead of a school hall from 11am onwards. This decision was made to give students "the opportunity to be with their classmates and consult their teachers face-to-face on their next steps" when collecting their results, said MOE. Due to the younger age of PSLE students, a parent or guardian will be allowed to accompany their child or ward to school to collect their results. However, they will need to wait at designated areas in schools and observe safe management measures while the students receive the results in the classrooms. Those who are unwell or are on Quarantine Order, Stay-Home Notice or Leave of Absence on the day of the results release should not return to school to collect their results. Instead, they may view their results online on the Examinations and Assessment Board's (SEAB) results release syste...
