As Mentor by eDriving Passes 3.5 Billion Miles Driven, Analysis Confirms Program’s Ability to Reduce Risky Driving Behaviors

CAPE MAY, NJ, Jan 26, 2023 - (ACN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - eDriving's digital driver safety program, Mentor(SM), featuring the FICO(R) Safe Driving Score, helps risky drivers become safer behind the wheel in just six months - and further improves behaviors over longer periods of time - according to findings from an analysis of the program. The analysis was performed after the program reached the milestone marking 3.5 billion miles driven in Spring 2022. The eDriving study identified the initial risk level of active[1] business drivers using the Mentor app (i.e., Very High Risk, High Risk, Medium Risk, Low Risk or Very Low Risk[2]), based on their first month's FICO Safe Driving Score - a score derived from smartphone-based driving behavior telematics. It then measured progress[3] over periods of six months, 12 months, and 18 months of using the app.Over a six-month period, those initially categorized as Very High Risk or High Risk experienced up to a 51% increase in their FICO Safe Driving Score, moving them up into the Medium Risk category. Over a longer period of 18 months, those initially categorized as Very High Risk or High Risk experienced an even greater average increas...

HONG KONG, Jan 21, 2023 - (ACN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - On 20 January 2023, Fosun International Limited ("Fosun International" or "Fosun", HKEX: 00656) issued a profit warning announcement on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, mentioning that based on the information available to the Board and the latest unaudited consolidated management accounts of the Group for the year ended 31 December 2022, Fosun International's revenue in 2022 is expected to increase by approximately 10% compared to that of 2021. However, due to the recurrent outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in 2022 and the turmoil and downturn of the international capital markets, which resulted to an increase in business costs and an increase in floating losses in secondary capital market investment, Fosun International's overall industry operations and industrial investment have been affected to varying degrees, thus the profit attributable to owners of the parent in 2022 is expected to be not more than approximately RMB2 billion. The announcement also pointed out that with the gradual return to normalization of international trade and commerce in 2023, the Company's management expects to see recovery of its businesses. US inflation surges to 30-year high; likely to get worse, say economists

WASHINGTON (BLOOMBERG) - After US prices climbed by the most in three decades, there's even worse news ahead for households and policy makers: Inflation likely has further to rise before it peaks. October's annual rate was 6.2 per cent, the highest since 1990, as price increases spread well beyond the parts of the US economy most disrupted by pandemic closures. Key drivers, like hot housing markets and a global energy crunch, show few signs of fading away soon - leading economists to predict even bigger jumps in the coming months. "We're going to see the inflation picture get worse before it gets better," said Sarah House, senior economist at Wells Fargo & Co. She doesn't expect much relief before next spring. For the Federal Reserve, and President Joe Biden, that likely seems a long way off - and pressure for a change of policy course will ratchet up in the meantime, as calls to rein in pandemic support grow louder. 'Tipping Point' Surging prices are eating into family budgets, wiping out the wage increases that US workers have battled for after last year's jobs wipeout, and squeezing profit margins for small businesses. The Fed has already begun to back away from the case it's be...

Wall Street ends sharply lower after inflation hit 30-year high

NEW YORK (AFP) - United States shares fell sharply on Wednesday (Nov 10) after consumer inflation hit a 30-year high, and as investors headed for the exits after a streak of gains over the last few weeks. While some analysts said a decline was to be expected, the inflation data loomed large. The US consumer price index (CPI) surged 6.2 per cent in the 12 months ended last month, a 30-year high coming amid rising oil, auto and housing prices, according to Labour Department data. The benchmark Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.7 per cent to finish the day at 36,079.94, and the broad-based S&P 500 fell 0.8 per cent to 4,646.71. The tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index sank 1.7 per cent to end at 15,622.71. The CPI spike added to concerns that supply bottlenecks, along with shortages of key components and workers, will lead to persistent inflation, despite assurances from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell that the pressures will fade. Some economists think the central bank will have to be more aggressive to contain prices, pulling back more quickly on its bond buying programme and potentially raising the key borrowing rate multiple times next year. Does high inequality lower interest rates?

(NYTIMES) - The Federal Reserve's low interest rate policies and other steps meant to boost the economy are driving the value of stocks and other assets to the moon and thus are a major cause of high wealth inequality. New evidence suggests high inequality is the cause, not the result, of the low interest rates and high asset prices evident in recent years. That is a provocative implication of new research by Dr Atif Mian of Princeton, Dr Ludwig Straub of Harvard and Dr Amir Sufi of the University of Chicago. The research looks at two leading explanations: the demographic effects of the baby boom generation's accumulation of retirement savings and the effects of higher inequality, given the fact that rich people save a larger share of their income than the middle class and the poor. They found that the role of higher inequality was far more important than that of demographics. It's not that the high earners increased their savings rates. Rather, they were winning a bigger piece of the economic pie; by the researchers' calculations, the share of income going to the top 10 per cent of earners rose to more than 45 per cent in recent years, up from about 30 per cent in the early 1970s....

River Valley High School death: Early investigations suggest axe bought online, says Shanmugam

SINGAPORE - After a 16-year-old River Valley High School student was charged with murdering a schoolmate three years his junior on Tuesday morning (July 20), Law and Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam posted about the incident on Facebook, calling it "one of the worst things that can happen to parents". "It's completely shocking because safety is assumed and normally (in Singapore anyway) assured," he wrote. "The attacker is also a young boy, (16), he has been charged today. As (the Attorney-General's Chambers) told the court, there is some history of mental health issues." Preliminary investigations suggest the 16-year-old had purchased the axe online, he said. "But we will know the full facts only after investigations are completed." The police had said on Monday that they had seized an axe at the school. The minister added: "We all grieve with the parents of the boy who was killed. It's difficult to even describe the true extent of their grief." The 16-year-old appeared in court via video link on Tuesday morning at about 10am and was accused of murdering the 13-year-old at a level four toilet in the school between 11.16am and 11.44am on Monday. The accused cannot be named as he ...
