Man fined $3,500 for hurling vulgarities at bus driver after being told to wear his mask properly

SINGAPORE - A bus driver who spotted a passenger with his mask down stopped the bus to approach the man and advised him to put on his mask properly. The passenger, Mohamed Reezal Abdullah, 49, followed the driver back to the driver's seat and hurled vulgarities at him. Mohamed Reezal was on Tuesday (Nov 9) fined $3,500 under the Protection from Harassment Act for using abusive language against a public service worker. One other charge of failing to cover his nose with his mask was taken into consideration in his sentencing. The court heard that on July 20 last year at about 7.30pm, Mohamed Reezal, a Singaporean, boarded SBS service 10 and sat on the upper deck of the bus. The bus driver, Mr Chua Khea Boon, 61, saw on the closed-circuit television that Mohamed Reezal's mask was not covering his nose and mouth. The driver stopped the bus and went to the upper deck to advise him to wear his mask properly before returning to the driver's seat to continue the journey. Mohamed Reezal followed Mr Chua and confronted him at the driver's seat in an aggressive manner. Joseph Schooling’s former spokesman jailed 18 months for cheating victims of over $83k

SINGAPORE - A former sports agent who was Olympic champion Joseph Schooling's spokesman was jailed 18 months on Wednesday (Oct 20) for cheating his friends into paying him for tickets to a football match and U2 concerts here. Mohamed Hafidz Ja'afar, 38, also cheated a former client, footballer Illyas Lee, of more than $17,500 by tricking him into buying 52 pairs of shoes, but he delivered only three pairs. Appearing before a district court, Mohamed Hafidz, who also formerly managed Schooling's swim school, pleaded guilty to eight charges of cheating. Nine other similar charges were taken into account for his sentencing. He was acquitted of four cheating charges he had earlier been accused of. For the 17 charges Mohamed Hafidz admitted to, 17 victims were cheated of more than $83,000. Deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Selene Yap said he made partial restitution of $22,030. The court heard that Mohamed Hafidz, who was unemployed at the time, cheated his friends into paying for tickets to see U2 as well as the International Champions Cup (ICC) - an exhibition football tournament - in Singapore in 2019.
