S’pore to administer over 2 million Covid-19 vaccine doses over next 2 months: Ong Ye Kung

SINGAPORE - More than two million Covid-19 vaccine doses are expected to be administered in Singapore over the next two months. This is “critically important” as the country prepares for the emergence of the new Omicron variant, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said in a Facebook post on Saturday (Dec 11). On Friday night (Dec 10), the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that children from five to 11 years old will be able to receive their vaccine, and individuals aged between 18 and 29 who have completed their primary vaccination at least five months ago will be able to receive their booster shots. Mr Ong, who co-chairs the multi-ministry task force tackling the pandemic, said: “Preliminary studies have shown that it is more transmissible than (the Delta variant). Hence, it will be a matter of time before it establishes itself all over the world, and even overtake Delta as the dominant variant.” He added that initial indications are that Omicron infections cause milder symptoms, but that because of its potentially high transmissibility, even a small proportion of people falling very sick could put Singapore's healthcare system under severe pressure. MOH announced on Friday that children...

The victims were told that in order to earn a commission, they had to sign up for free membership accounts on certain websites and mobile applications. After signing up, they would then be offered different membership packages, ranging in price from $10 to a few thousand dollars, with varying amounts of commission paid per task. They would be told to pay the fees via cryptocurrency or bank transfer to unknown individuals before they could start performing the job to earn a commission. In most cases, the victims would be convinced that it was a legitimate job, as t...

It is expected to be completed in six weeks, including the second dose, said Mindef in a Facebook post. Personnel in critical units - such as those involved in the protection of key installations, sea and air defence, and counter-terrorism - will be next in line before the rest of the SAF receive their shots. Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said in the same post that there are plans to get the bulk of the SAF's active forces vaccinated by the middle of this year. Singapore is ramping up its vaccination programme, with those in the military joining others who have already taken the first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, such as Home Team officers, nursing home staff, and healthcare and aviation workers. Dr Ng and Senior Minister of State for Defence Zaqy Mohamad joined 20 SAF personnel to receive the vaccine last week at t...
