Showa Denko Starts Shipment of Newly Developed HD Media for Record-breaking 26TB Near-line HDD

TOKYO, May 26, 2022 - (ACN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - Showa Denko K.K. (SDK) (TOKYO: 4004) has started shipment of newly developed 3.5-inch hard disk media (HD media) to be used in 26 terabyte (TB) hard disk drive (HDD), which has the largest storage capacity the HDD industry has ever produced(1).The new HD media support energy-assisted magnetic recording(2) and shingled magnetic recording(3)(SMR). This time, by introducing Showa Denko Group's latest magnetic layer design and technology to produce fine crystals of magnetic substance on the surface of aluminum platter, we successfully developed HD media which have storage capacity of 2.6TB per platter, the largest one in the industry. Thus, the new HD media have pioneered the age of HD media having recording density of 1TB/in2 or higher, and we successfully combined technology to produce fine crystals of magnetic substance with technology to improve rewrite-cycle endurance on the surface of HD media, while maintaining compatibility with shingled magnetic recording (SMR). We will accelerate development of new HD media further, and aim to realize near-line HDD having storage capacity of more than 30TB by the end of 2023.Due to the ...

Showa Denko Develops HD Media for MAS-MAMR Technology

TOKYO, Dec 10, 2021 - (JCN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - Showa Denko K.K. (SDK; TSE: 4004) has developed hard disk (HD) media for hard disk drives (HDDs) which support data recording with Microwave Assisted Switching-Microwave Assisted Magnetic Recording (MAS-MAMR) technology, which is a next-generation data-recording technology based on a new data recording principle suggested by Toshiba Corporate Research & Development Center and Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation (Hereinafter collectively called Toshiba).MAS-MAMR is a next generation data recording method that can realize further increase in data-storage capacity of HDDs. At present, Microwave Assisted Magnetic Recording (MAMR) is a leading edge data-recording technology, which has already been put into practical use. The newly developed MAS-MAMR technology realizes data-recording track on the surface of HD media drastically narrower than that of MAMR-technology-based HD media through utilization of the strong magnetic oscillation effect of Microwave Assisted Switching (MAS effect)*1, thereby increasing data-storage capacity of HDDs.Aiming to put this new data-recording technology into practical use, SDK ha...

Man admits to insulting family member’s modesty by recording video of teen showering

SINGAPORE - A man was staying with his extended family in a Tampines flat when he used a mobile phone to record a video of an 18-year-old girl while she was taking a shower. The victim's paternal aunt is married to the offender's brother, the court heard. The 32-year-old offender, who cannot be named due to a gag order to protect the victim's identity, pleaded guilty on Wednesday (Aug 11) to one count of insulting a woman's modesty. He was at home some time in 2017 when he placed his mobile phone on the ledge of a bathroom window. The girl later came home from school and spotted the device after she took a shower. She took the phone and saw that it contained a video of her showering. She immediately deleted the clip, threw the device on the floor and left the bathroom. The teenager, however, did not tell her family members about what had happened as she did not think they would believe her. Meanwhile, the man returned to the bathroom to retrieve his phone and noticed that its recording mode was off. After the incident, the victim felt fearful about going to shower at home or sleep there as she was worried that the man would insult her modesty again. Court documents did not disclose...
