SportsIcon launches the Future Icons initiative to launch the careers of athletes around the world

London, UK, October 26, 2022 – (SEAPRWire) -SportsIcon, the NFT platform for athletes, has announced its Future Icons program. Fans can invest in the next generation of athletes who could change the world. By investing they can participate in their financial success. Currently, young athletes with a passion to compete at a national or international level, are struggling to get the significant financial backing to get to that stage. This often leads to athletes having to become entrepreneurs, business people and financial wizards when all they want to do is train and focus on the sport. Without this initial financial stability, a lot of brilliant stars never make it to professional athletes. SportsIcon’s Future Icons program will allow fans to invest in upcoming athletes, share in their success and connect with them. Fans are now able to invest in athletes they believe in and participate in their financial upside, supporting them with a framework that otherwise doesn’t exist. If an athlete’s career takes off then the fans that helped make that dream come true will increase the value of the NFTs that they own, and that helped make it happen. SportsIcon CEO and Co-Founder Chris Worsey...

The effectiveness of the blocking is backed up by the most recent YouGov consumer surveys undertaken by CAP in which more than 50% of Indonesian consumers say that they have stopped or rarely access pirate services as a result of blocking. Perhaps more importantly, 76% of Indonesian consumers say they are accessing more legal content and pirating less, and 26% say they have subscribed to legitimate sources as a result of illegal streaming sites being blocked. The 13 days that made US Fed chief Jerome Powell pivot on inflation

NEW YORK (NYTIMES) - Inflation has been building for months. But it was over 13 days this fall that Jerome Powell, the Federal Reserve chair, decided the central bank needed to get more serious about trying to choke it off. The story of the latest Powell pivot- the abrupt move toward tighter monetary policy announced Wednesday - shows a great deal about the decision-making approach of the man US President Joe Biden has nominated for a second term as the nation's top central banker. In short: He may stick to his chosen policy path in the face of public pressure as long as evidence doesn't undermine his assumptions, but he's willing to change course quickly when data emerges that suggests the world is different. The Fed's policy committee announced on Wednesday (Dec 15) that it would speed up the end of the Fed's bond-buying programme and was likely to raise interest rates sooner than had been envisioned as recently as early November. The mantra of Fed officials through the summer months that inflation was likely to be transitory is now, officially, history. More than usual in a Fed news conference, Mr Powell narrated the events that caused his policy pivot. Complaints about high inf...

Trust, pragmatism, renewal: The book Lee Kuan Yew asked for but did not get to read

SINGAPORE - The mic drop came one minute into the interview: It was founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew who, in mid-2011, asked Dr Shashi Jayakumar to write a book on the history of Singapore's ruling party. Given how fundamental Mr Lee was to the book, Dr Jayakumar - who is a senior fellow and head of the Centre of Excellence for National Security at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies - felt the proper way to credit him was to state in his speech on Tuesday (Dec 14) Mr Lee's key role, rather than simply a brief acknowledgement in the introductory matter. Indeed, there is little mention of Mr Lee in the acknowledgements section of A History Of The PAP: 1985-2021. Only near the bottom of Page 717, among a list of interviews with politicians, is there a brief entry: "Lee Kuan Yew, 28 Dec 2011". Mr Lee was in a reflective mood after the watershed 2011 General Election, and had made it clear he wanted two things: First, an academic approach to the history of the People’s Action Party (PAP) compared with an earlier 2009 book Men In White: The Untold Story Of Singapore's Ruling Political Party - in short, a treatment of the PAP not solely as a political party, but also th...

Probation for teen who took part in group attack on boy in youth home

SINGAPORE - A teenager who ganged up with his twin brother and two other offenders to attack a 14-year-old boy in a youth home when they were residents there in 2018 went on to commit drug-related crimes the following year. The 19-year-old Singaporean was on Monday (Dec 6) sentenced to 21 months' probation after he earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and three drug-related charges. He also has to remain indoors from 10pm to 6am every day and perform 60 hours of community service. On Nov 29, his twin brother was sentenced to 15 months' probation after he pleaded guilty to one count each of assault and using abusive words on a public servant. The two brothers were initially accused of being part of a group that forced the victim to bend over before another youth allegedly inserted items, including a highlighter, into him. These sexual penetration charges were later withdrawn and the pair were given a discharge amounting to an acquittal for them. This means the two brothers cannot be charged again with the same offences. The cases involving at least one of their alleged accomplices are still pending. Details about the youth home and victim cannot be disclosed due to a gag ...
