TOKYO, Jan 23, 2023 - (JCN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - With the support of Fujitsu, the operators of the legendary Nurburgring are showing how history, the present and the future can be optimally combined - for greater safety using advanced AI technology. Especially on the one of the world's most challenging race tracks: the Nordschleife. There, the unique tourist drives in particular can become even safer. The first installations as well as tests and analyses for this groundbreaking project have already been underway for one year. HD cameras were installed along a 2.8-kilometer section and connected with fiberglass. Fujitsu developed an AI system that immediately registers safety-relevant incidents and forwards them to operations management. At future races, track days, tourist drives and test drives by the automotive industry, drivers can be warned immediately of dangers via LED displays on the track, so that everyone involved can assess the situation more quickly and react accordingly. After a year of successful test installations, the partners involved are now drawing a thoroughly positive balance, so that in the next two years the entire Nordschleife can be equipped with the A...

Fujitsu Transforms Nuerburgring Racetrack Safety with Artificial Intelligence

MUNICH, Jul 14, 2021 - (JCN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - In the future, the Nuerburgring circuit could benefit from advanced artificial intelligence-supported safety features thanks to Fujitsu. A complex deployment of HD cameras, real-time AI analysis and instant alert systems mean that both RaceControl and drivers can be immediately notified of incidents on this challenging racetrack section - nicknamed the - green hell by Formula One driver Sir Jackie Stewart. The iconic Nordschleife (North Loop) is the most famous of the Nuerburgring's two racetracks. The 20.8-kilometer track features a total of 73 turns, including blind corners, drops and significant elevation changes - and is consequently considered by many to be one of the most challenging in the world. Historically, in the event of an incident, such as a vehicle leaving the track, race marshals relied on radio and communication with the marshals on the track to relay the information back to RaceControl and make decisions. In contrast to the Grand Prix circuit, the Nordschleife has not yet been equipped with cameras and is therefore out of sight from RaceControl. This meant it was often difficult to assess and react to issues...

Man arrested after climbing over screen door onto track at Jurong East MRT to retrieve phone

SINGAPORE - A man has been arrested for climbing onto the track at Jurong East MRT station on Tuesday night (July 6) to retrieve his mobile phone. An oncoming train had to make an emergency stop, and the incident caused a slight delay in train services, said SMRT on Wednesday. The rail operator said the incident happened at about 10.15pm, and the man was unhurt. The Straits Times understands he is aged 57. SMRT Trains president Lam Sheau Kai said the train driver on the north-bound train approaching the station applied the emergency brake when he saw a person trespassing on the track. "The man had climbed over the half-height platform screen door to retrieve his mobile phone from the live track," he added. Mr Lam said SMRT is assisting the police in investigations. He reminded commuters to stay clear of the tracks for their own safety. "Trespassing onto the track is dangerous. This could bring harm to other commuters when emergency brake is applied," he added. "Please approach our staff for assistance if you need to retrieve your belongings from the tracks." Mr Lam said trains travelled at a slower speed as an extra safety precaution because of the incident. Normal train services r...

Safety track records of construction firms can be easily compared on new MOM e-service

SINGAPORE - Construction firms' safety track records will be more easily accessible from Thursday (Jan 21), with statistics on information such as fatalities and stop-work orders consolidated for easy comparison. The data on the Ministry of Manpower's (MOM) website will also be updated every fortnight. Senior Minister of State for Manpower Zaqy Mohamad gave the update after observing a work site inspection on Thursday morning. The records, uploaded to a platform called CheckSafe, also include enforcement details such as demerit points, and whether the company is under the Business Under Surveillance (Bus) programme or has workplace safety and health (WSH) records. This allows industry players and the public to compare such records and make selections of contractors based on their WSH records, said MOM. While such information was available previously on MOM's site, users comparing such statistics had to download separate PDF files, each documenting one statistic. They can now see multiple statistics at a glance. Records displayed on CheckSafe date back three years - with the exception of fatalities, which are reflected for a year - in hopes that contravening companies will improve t...

Covid-19 situation pushed fresh grad onto entrepreneurship path

A one-year stint in Stockholm where he worked for medical technology firm Meloq and was exposed to budding entrepreneurs inspired Mr Yap Jun Yi to strike out on his own - a decision which he says was made easier with the coronavirus pandemic. The 25-year-old is one of five co-founders of personal finance company Taby Technologies, and the only one working full-time at the start-up. His co-founders, aged 24 to 29, are either studying or have other full-time jobs. The Covid-19 situation gave him "more assurance" to start his own business, said Mr Yap. "I'm going to give myself a year, till probably the end of next year, to see where this business is going to take me, and whether I want to continue with it or not," he said. "I think the current situation gave me the assurance to pursue my entrepreneurship passion." Many of his friends are on traineeships, and most of his peers would prefer the stability and security of a full-time job, instead of making it on their own fresh out of university. "But when I asked myself whether I would regret not pursuing this opportunity five years from now, I think I would," he said. The start-up received a capital grant of $30,000 from Startup SG Fou...
